The Importance of Risers for Your Septic System

by | Nov 15, 2024

Septic tank risers are essential to a septic system as they provide several advantages for homeowners. They provide easy access for maintenance when needed, inspections during property transfers, and emergency situations. Risers also help serve as reminders for maintenance pumping. When properly installed and secured, they can promote safety and help prevent contamination.

Some older septic systems may be over a foot buried in the ground! It can get expensive to pay someone to dig for access, especially in an emergency. Eliminating that extra cost by installing risers can keep money in your pocket in the long run.

Example of how risers can help homeowners and your septic service provider. Recently, there was an emergency on the weekend, with the client having a septic backup in their home. Our technician arrived at the home on a Saturday evening and located the tank. The tank was three feet in the ground!! It took the technician an extra hour to call in a second crew member to bring out the excavator to gain access to the tank—all the while, their septic waste was backed up in their home. The machine and operator cost the homeowner an extra $800.00! If the septic had risers installed previously, that $800 would not have been spent on just gaining access to the tank, and it would have saved them at least an hour. We cannot express enough how advantageous risers are to a homeowner because emergencies are never planned.

New and replacement septic systems are now always installed with risers, per the County Code. The code states that the riser must be above grade at least six inches.

Cullison is more than happy to quote and install the risers for your septic so you are prepared for future septic needs.
